Fifteen years of biting my nails. Twelve weeks of growing them back.

Lumina Beauty started with my own nail biting addiction, and a goal to help other women get their confidence back.

Why I made this

I wore acrylics for fifteen years: $55 to $90 every couple of weeks, and underneath, nails I was too embarrassed to show. The truth is I was stuck in a cycle: get a fresh set, pick at them, rip them off, then bite what was left until the next appointment. I'd hide my hands. Even sitting down at the salon felt embarrassing, and honestly, painful.

I tried everything to stop. I contemplated gloves. I wore bandaids. I painted on that nasty-tasting polish. Nothing worked, and whenever I did find the motivation to grow my nails, they were so damaged they'd just break and peel off again.

What finally worked wasn't willpower, it was swapping the habit. A pen and a file, everywhere I went. Reaching for the pen instead of my teeth became my new addiction, a small moment of self care I actually looked forward to. And my nails just grew, and grew.
